TIME COMMITMENT AND CLASS MEETING DATES

Classes will meet monthly beginning with a two-day retreat in St. Joseph on January 21st and 22nd. They will continue at locations throughout the region on February 19th, March 19th, April 16th, May 14th, and June 4th. Graduation will be the evening of June 25th, to be followed by an optional project retreat on July 9th.

Classes begin at 9 a.m. and will adjourn by 4 p.m. Also, there will be required evening activities on January 21st.

  • February 19 – Chillicothe – Hedrick Medical Center
    Skill: Modeling the Way
    --Set the example by behaving in ways that are consistent with shared values
    --Achieve small wins that promote consistent progress and build commitment
    Issue: Healthcare
  • March 19 – Jefferson City – Amtrak to the Capitol
    Skill: Inspiring a Shared Vision
    --Envision an uplifting and ennobling future
    --Enlist others in a common vision by appealing to their values, interests, hopes and dreams
    Issue: Legislative Process
  • April 16 -- Grant City – Fairgrounds
    Skill: Challenging the Process
    --Search out challenging opportunities to change, grow, innovate and improve
    --Experiment, take risks and learn from the accompanying mistakes
    Issue: Economic Development
  • May 14 – Maysville – Independent Farmers Bank
    Skill: Enabling Others to Act
    --Foster collaboration by promoting cooperative goals and building trust
    --Strengthen people by giving power away, providing choice, and developing competence, assigning critical tasks and offering visible support
    Issue: Education of the Workforce
  • June 4 – Maryville – MOERA (Mozingo Outdoor Education Recreation Area)
    Skill: Encouraging the Heart
    --Recognize individual contributions to the success of every project
    --Celebrate team accomplishments regularly
    Issue: Recreation/Quality of Life
  • June 25 – St. Joseph – Graduation - 6:00 pm

Attendance at all sessions is required!*  
You are expected to attend every session. However, you will be allowed to be absent from one session with prior approval and permission of the Program Coordinator. An absence is missing a whole session or any part thereof. If you miss more than the one approved absence; you will need to make up the applicable session(s) the following year in order to graduate.

*New attendance policy effective with Class of 2005.

Leadership Northwest Missouri Class of 2009 Holds Initial Retreat

St Joseph, MO — The Leadership Northwest Missouri Class of 2009 recently held their kick-off retreat at the Ramada Inn, St. Joseph. Dr. Tim Crowley, counselor, speaker and trainer from Northwest Missouri State University facilitated the two-day opening session. Leadership Northwest Missouri brings together participants from throughout the region to develop their leadership skills, explore regional issues and gain a network of contacts throughout the region.

The class will continue through June with sessions held in various communities throughout the region: Chillicothe, Grant City, Maysville and Maryville. A new session added this year will have the class taking Amtrak to Jefferson City to view the legislative process first hand. Some of the regional issues to be addressed are workforce development, education, economic development, infrastructure and health care. Each session will include instruction on valuable leadership skills, comprehensive examination of important issues facing the region and hands-on experiential exercises.

Leadership Northwest Missouri has as its mission “to enhance leadership skills while cultivating regional awareness and instilling a sense of responsibility for community and regional growth.”
