What do you believe was most valuable about Great Northwest Day at the Capitol?
  • The rare opportunity for all the communities in NW Mo. to get together and identify as a regional group.
  • Time with the Legislators.
  • We are able to come together as a region to have a more powerful impact on the issues. Also the opportunity to showcase our communities is very helpful.
  • Being able as a group to showcase our area to the legislators, to speak with them and let them get to know us for future projects.
  • BEING ABLE TO SEE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATE IN ACTION.
  • Best contacts ever with our legislators.
  • Collectively expressing our concerns to the legislators.
  • Connecting our region's citizens as a unified unit with a common agenda.
  • Face time with legislators.
  • First, the numbers from this part of Missouri that attended speaks volumes, especially with the introduction in the House and Senate. They know we are serious about issues. Also, the agenda that Chillicothe had set up for us in the afternoon. Excellent!!
  • Getting to know people in our community and surrounding communities better.
  • Going to the Capital in large numbers.
  • I believe that the combining of communities in a joint effort to make our legislators aware that we are still in the state and that we have valid concerns that need their attention. A united effort is important because I believe too often that those communities South of I-70 and St. Louis/Kansas City monopolize much of the expenditures in the state. We need to be strongly represented.
  • I believe the interaction between civilians and the representatives was a very important part of the day. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and would love go again next year. I do not know how many years this event has been held but I think it is a worthy cause.
  • I especially enjoyed the presentation by the Adam Puchta and Son Wine Company from Hermann. As our development corporation has some interest in trying to start the grape business here in NW Missouri, they were very informative and professional in presenting their business to us and most importantly, sharing info. Some networking was developed.
  • I thought everything went well. This was my first year going.
  • Interaction with Legislators and the other community members from northwest Missouri.
  • Introductions on House and Senate floor.
  • Just being able to make our legislature know that northwest Missouri is a very active part of the state and we need some help, but we are also working to help ourselves.
  • Knowing how my legislator, and representatives handle my part of the bills and acts that need to be taken in hand.
  • Luncheon and the showcasing of each community's booth.
  • Making our voice heard by the number of people from the Northwest.
  • Meeting legislators and state departmental staff who can help make a difference within our community and the area we serve.
  • My meeting with the Director of Public safety and several of the House Reps.
  • Networking with legislators as well as networking with other regional community leaders.
  • Networking with other leaders from NW Missouri as well as our politicians in the Capitol. I don't know who organizes this event each year but they are to be commended.
  • Networking with regional participants.
  • Networking with the other communities as well as making the legislators understand that there really is a northwest Mo. and we have needs and do vote.
  • One element that showed an impressive stand/interest for NW MO was when we were recognized in the gallery and were a very large number. It seemed to overwhelm some of the legislators. Volumes speak loud.
  • Opportunity to make our presence known in a big way and to have the issues of northwest Missouri heard by a large number of Legislators. Developing camaraderie with other regional citizens is definitely a great benefit.
  • Reminding State Officials that Missouri exists north of the I-70 corridor.
  • Showing a strong, active presence to our lawmakers.
  • Size of the delegation. Opportunity to meet one-on-one with legislators and discuss issues of importance to the legislator as well as to the northwest communities.
  • Talking with Legislators at the Capitol and also showing regional support for the same important issues. Legislators are continually pulled different directions. I think that it is very important that we continue to do ED on a regional basis. Everyone Wins.
  • Talking with the senators and representatives, sitting with them having dinner in a Mardi Gras atmosphere.
  • The ability for NW MO to show its collaboration in making an impact on legislation in this state. Also the ability to get a diverse group of leaders (i.e. ED Professionals, Chambers, Reps and Senators, and elected officials) in the same room talking about the same thing at the same time!!
  • The ability to band together the communities into one force that can’t be ignored by the legislators for at least one day. I think it also gives our own elected officials a little more honor from their peers at this time. It also encourages the NW to understand we can accomplish more by working together.
  • The cooperation, coordination and sharing of the participants may have been as valuable as visiting with the legislators. It was well done. Thanks!
  • The dinner on Monday is critical.
  • The great representation from our region and the promotion of our region.
  • The individual meetings with the Representatives and Senators. It is important that even though they may not be familiar with Northwest MO, they need to realize that we have needs and desires that are every bit as important as those of the metropolitan areas of the state.
  • The introduction in the Chambers; the impressive group; where all Rep and Senators can see The Great NW Group together; is comparable to the evening event where we continue to talk one-on-one with the legislators.
  • The large showing of our group in the House and Senate Chambers. Good attendance from our region is critical.
  • The Mardi Gras Event was well planned and executed. Every time I bring someone new from my community they are so impressed and have such a wonderful time. Thanks to all who put so much effort into it.
  • The Monday night issues dinner with NW Missouri legislators is a very valuable component and relatively inexpensive. Several legislators commented that they were not aware of some of the information we presented.
  • The Northwest Region was recognized by the senate floor. That was valuable and had a great impact showing our support. The picture taken outside of the Capitol and put in the local papers also had an impact showing our support.
  • The party, with its great atmosphere and legislator participation, as well as networking between community leaders.
  • The recognition by legislatures of the identified issues and the fact that so many of their constituents agreed upon their importance.
  • The region's cooperative spirit to lobby as one yet still highlight each entity, I think really does capture legislator's/bureaucrats attention.
  • The regional approach provides the "numbers" of participants to get the attention of the contacts. The unified delivery of the "wish list" is good.
  • The regional networking, seeing old friends and making new contacts to meet the needs of the northwest region as well as our local area.
  • The unity of all in the Northwest and working on issues that affect us all in the Northwest. We need to stay a strong force, so those in Jefferson City can see that we are Missourians too.
  • The value lies in the fact that the Northwest region of the State is the most densely represented by locals by comparison to other regions of similar size or type and that the legislators had to be more than a little awed by that many voters making such a trip to their halls. The effect should be more than positive for the area.
  • The whole area coming together to make our voice and concerns known.
  • This was my first time with the Great Northwest Day at the Capitol and it was all very valuable to me and very educational. I hope that I will be able to go next year.
