What do you believe was most valuable about Great Northwest Day at the Capitol?
  • Talking to the Senators and Representatives.
  • Letting the capitol know that northwest Missouri exists and we are actively staying on top of issues that concern and impact our communities.
  • Networking with others from the various counties and those legislators we were able to catch, however brief.
  • The united effort of the region and lobbying for specific issues for our area.
  • The night event.
  • Good organization/ great representation.
  • Legislative Dinner the night prior.
  • The one on one time after the legislative sessions.
  • The entire package.
  • Visiting with my legislators.
  • The opportunity as a whole. We will need to continue to voice our concerns of northwest Missouri to those that are not usually aware of the needs and issues in our area.
  • Personal time with elected personnel.
  • I believe the evening event is key to getting the legislature to remember us.
  • The showing of unity by geographic region and solidarity on regional issues. Opportunities to meet face to face with key legislators and department heads.
  • The networking between the communities is vital. Also the availability to talk to your representatives face to face. It puts a face to the community and lets us reinforce the importance of the issues.
  • Having the opportunity to visit with legislators and learn about area communities through their booths
Learning about the things going on in my community.
  • I enjoyed the time scheduled at the Capitol, help from John Quinn, where we had a different speaker about every 15 minutes. It was very informative.
  • The opportunity for legislators to see our enthusiasm and numbers in the introductions and hopefully attend the evening event. One legislator from south MO said that our event topped the Branson/Springfield event and was more memorable.
  • Ability to meet legislators in a relaxed environment to discuss issues, instead of their respective offices.
  • Meeting with legislators in their offices and in the evening. Reporting to the Chamber of Commerce banquet at Maysville later that week. GNW group was the program sharing our GNW program with the group.
  • Going in mass to represent our northwest Missouri area -- a good strong voice.
  • The ability to stand as a group on issues.
  • Everyone from the area being able to get together and communicate about important issues.
  • I think the booths are important to show all people what is available now in cities and counties and the capacities for new improvements.
  • The 1 on 1 meeting at the Truman Building with the different departments.
  • Opportunity to address issues as a region in person, as a group, versus from a distance.
  • Introductions on the house/senate floor. Evening celebration - great networking time.
  • Visiting with other community leaders about issues. Also, getting the attention of the elected officials.
  • Getting the attention of the legislators. 320 voices make a huge impact - I think this effort has an equally important secondary effect of rallying our area and local communities to look at what we need to develop to improve our community, county and region - Paul Hamby
  • Regional networking.
  • Evening reception and dinner!
  • By far, the evening celebration is the best tool to interact with other communities and legislators, especially if there is some follow up.
  • The luncheon.
  • Our group met with state department heads in the afternoon-good information received. Most valuable-networking with friends/acquaintances throughout the NW area, recognizing we must work regionally and the opportunity to showcase NW MO to the reps/senators.
  • When people from different areas meet and can agree on the same issues pertaining to water etc. I would say this has to be a great success.
  • The luncheon panel this year was very informative, it helped those attendee's who are not in the whole government loop to get first hand information on issues. This year, more than in the past, the issues were driven and owned by the majority of the region. I liked the way every community/county involved had ample opportunity to voice their opinion regarding issues.
  • Most valuable -- 1) meeting with the individual legislators, 2) being introduced as that large of a group to the Senate, and 3) having a set list of concerns so we were all on the same page. Most informative -- the Panel discussion at lunch.
  • The luncheon panel was very informative & the sessions with department heads in one location was much better than a visit to each of their offices.
  • The great leadership of the GND committee.
  • The evening event.
  • Being able to talk to department directors and our state officials.
  • The continuity and growing recognition for the quality of the event--which gives us a good turn out. I believe the weather this year played a big part in a slight decrease in legislative attendance.
  • Giving the Region a chance to showcase itself and giving its legislators a chance to familiarize themselves with our issues.
  • I enjoyed being able to meet with department heads to ask questions.
  • Just letting our legislators know that we exist and giving them a list of issues that we feel are important to our area so they can work on them for us.
  • To be seen and heard.
  • The time spent meeting directly with legislators on a one on one basis.
  • Having the department heads come to us was a big plus this year.
  • Probably being able to visit with the legislators at their offices and maybe more important at an informal session at the Mardi Gras event. Also it was good to visit with people in our county and people in other counties that had similar issues or had information that could help our county.
  • Getting to meet with our State Legislative persons and tell them about our issues. I was very pleased that they were already knowledgeable and for the most part have already worked for our best interests. It was also great to meet people from other towns and counties and see and hear what they are working on or planning on for their region of the Great Northwest Part of the State.
  • The information our community received during the afternoon at Hearing Room #2.
  • Meeting with the legislators. Discussing issues of importance to Northern MO.
  • The ability to network with regional gov't and city officials, having everyone from NWMO there represented was invaluable to me, even though I didn't make the most of the opportunity it was there. My fault.
  • The ability to gather as a region and promote what a unified section of the state has to offer.
  • The luncheon with the panel of experts really helped clarify the issues and bring understanding.
  • The interaction with the legislators was very advantageous, as well as building relationships with others within our region.
  • Time with legislators.
  • Networking.
  • The Chillicothe Delegation sessions were very informative to me.
  • It shows a unity on key issues for the legislature.
  • Issues Luncheon and Reception.
  • F2F with Legislators.
  • Meeting with Legislators during the day and at the evening event is invaluable.
  • The evening Mardi Gras event, where you get a chance to converse with the Legislators.
  • Availability of contact with legislators if desired.
  • The time to meet with Legislators at the Capitol.
  • Networking opportunities.
  • Networking with the legislators and other people from the region.
  • Opportunity to talk with legislators from outside NW Missouri. Chance to get to know NW Missouri legislators better.
  • The booths/reception- It was a nice casual way to interact w/ the legislators.
  • I believe that just the numbers alone show how much we care about our state, our values, and our beliefs. Going in such a group definitely has more of an impact than just one or 2. It is a great event and I hope that it will continue for years to come.
  • Our unified voice in a focused list of topics.
  • Meeting with legislators and staffs...some outside the pre-determined agenda.

Legislator Comments...

I thought the Great Northwest Day at the Capitol event was effective because...

I enjoyed the opportunity to hear from my fellow Missourians about what great things that are going on and just how important we keep that area of the Great State of Missouri thriving. I enjoyed listening and learning. Northwest Missouri appears like this wonderful place to live and raise a family. Kind of like back home where I live and raise my family. Thank you all so very much for your wonderful hospitality. I enjoyed the chance to visit with such wonderful people. State Representative Timothy G. Meadows, 101st District

There is no better way to communicate our message than real people sharing it with elected officials. State Senator Brad Lager, 12th District

It was a great time to relax and focus on the opportunities of the northwestern part of the state. I really enjoyed it. State Representative Tom Todd, 163rd District

I got to visit with the individual towns that were involved. This is one of the most well prepared events that I have had a chance to attend. State Representative Paul Quinn, 9th District
