COMMITTEE & CHAIR POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

Committee Chairs are responsible for calling meetings of their committees, either in person or via some other format, to accomplish the assigned Committee tasks. Chairs are responsible for designating a person to act as recorder for the Committee, and to prepare and submit a report on the activities of the Committee at each Steering Committee meeting. Chairs are also responsible for the development of a Committee budget of both projected expenses and projected revenues for consideration by the Steering Committee, and for operating the Committee within the approved budgetary framework.

Event Committee
This committee determines the operation of activities that take place in Jefferson City. This includes development of the luncheon, evening and breakfast menus, entertainment, the set up and coordination of community booths, decorations for the event and coordination of optional afternoon tours. The Event Committee also creates the signage for the event.

Corporate Sponsorship Committee
This committee maintains the list of regional contributors, makes contact with those corporations, and secures corporate funding for the luncheon, entertainment, band, appetizers, dessert, and breakfast. They also obtain logos from these corporations and present to appropriate committees for publication, signage and provide to the webmaster for publication on the Great Northwest website.

Marketing and Public Relations Committee
This committee establishes and operates a plan for contacting all municipalities, counties and Chambers within the region, and a plan for securing the active involvement and contributions of those entities. This committee contacts all regional newspapers, radio stations, and television stations to secure news placement of information regarding both the planning for, and the operation of the event (including follow up news releases). This committee sends meeting reminders to the Steering Committee members and develops a regional informational brochure to keep participant entities aware of activities. They also direct the development and delivery of invitations and legislative reminders, both prior to and the day of the event.

Issues Committee
This committee orchestrates the plan to secure specific regional issues for presentation at Great Northwest Day. The committee is responsible for communicating with Legislators about northwest Missouri issues in cooperation and coordination with other Great Northwest committees. They also develop and implement a plan for organized follow-up of issues. The Issues Committee makes speaker arrangements for the event luncheon.

Policy Development Committee
Policies were adopted by the Great Northwest Steering Committee on 8/22/06. Policies are set by the group through an ad hoc, Policy Development Committee. The Program Administrator (currently Deb Powers) is the Event Coordinator and is ultimately responsible for the outwardly smooth flow of the event. On the day of the event, the Event Coordinator and Committee Chairs are accountable for the successful execution and oversight of event details and the Chair/Co-Chair will make themselves available for any last minute corrections or detail decisions. The Chair and Co-Chair may enact procedure as needed to ensure the success of the event.

Steering Committee

This committee consists of individuals from throughout the Great Northwest area. Planning begins early in the year. In fact, plans are already underway for our 2008 event through our planning meetings. Get ready - our big event will be here before you know it!
