Steering
Committee Meeting
October
17, 2006
Heartland
Foundation
Notes and
Minutes
- Mark Garges called the meeting to order at 10:08 a.m.
- Deb Powers went over the 2007 Budget and minutes from the August meeting were approved.
- To date, our only expenses have been those necessary to keep the Great Northwest Day website updated.
- The sponsorship from Aquila is already turned in for the 2007 event.
- Deb also pointed out that we have an additional $350 in the budget due to interest from income being carried over.
Committee
Updates
- Amy Ryan spoke on behalf of the Events Committee stating that they hadn’t met but that chair Natalie Redmond was sending out an email to members and they planned to meet in the next few weeks.
- Steve Schieber mentioned that he would help wherever needed.
- Alice McKee has rejoined the Events committee.
- It was discussed that we do not need to order more Mardi Gras beads but we will need to order more clear bags to put information in at the celebration event.
- Deb mentioned that all corporate sponsors remain the same
- Shellby Hendee spoke on behalf of the Issues Committee. He noted the County Coordinators are to be turning issues in on behalf of their county. The Leadership Northwest group will be meeting to discuss these issues after Roundtable meets in mid-November.
- The Leadership Northwest Missouri group will help to facilitate the issues forum at the Healthy Communities Summit on Nov. 29. After this meeting issues will be down to 3-5 main issues with bulleted points and subtopics.
- Shirts for our regional legislators were discussed. The group discussed polo shirts vs. long sleeved shirts like those we gave last year. An approximate quantity of 25-30 will be needed and committee members will get quotes from businesses in their communities. Steering Committee members will also be able to purchase these shirts.
- Lisa Luke spoke on behalf of the Marketing/PR Committee. A list of their committee members was reviewed. The committee plans to meet prior to the next GNW Steering Committee meeting. A final timeline of the event was passed out and Lisa asked that questions be emailed to Lee Langerock, Lisa Macali, or herself. Invitation samples have been ordered and if anyone has any ideas, please contact someone on the Marketing Committee to let them know.
Misc Info.
- Deb Powers talked about how Heartland Foundation is a non-profit and so checks for the event should be made out to Heartland Foundation and thus they will be tax-deductible. She also asked that in the memo field on the check that participants write Great Northwest Day.
- All information is on the Great Northwest Day website so if anyone misses meetings or people would like information, please direct them to
www.greatnorthwestday.com.
- Discussion was held on speakers for lunch and this will be tabled until closer to the event.
- Lapel pins have been ordered after taking 3 bids. We expect to receive 1,000 green and gold shaped pins with the Great Northwest Day logo.
- The extra ballroom at the Capital Plaza has been reserved for the event to help with space issues.
Updates to Corporate
Sponsorships
- Touchstone has gone up $200 to $4000.
- Snyder Engineering and PSF are up $100 each to $500.
- We may try to find a sponsor for the balloon decorations and balloon entertainment and also should expect the band price to increase next year.
The next meeting will take place at 10 a.m. at Heartland Foundation on November 14, 2006.
Respectfully Submitted,
Allison Strong
