December
20, 2006
St. Joseph Area
Chamber of Commerce
Meeting for the Great Northwest Day at the Capitol Steering Committee was held on Wednesday, Dec. 20th at the St. Joseph Area Chamber of Commerce.
Registration
Report
- Although still early we have 11 people registered
Sponsorship
Report
- Corporate Sponsorship registration is up from $7800 to $8200
- To date, there are $6250 in community pledges from Andrew County, Buchanan County, Chillicothe/Livingston County, Marceline, Mercer County, Savannah and St. Joseph.
County
Coordinators
Recommended that they might want to send out a reminder to potential attendees, as the room block at the Capitol Plaza will be released after December 30th.
Issues
Committee
- Committee submitted the rough draft of wording for the selected issues; Jack Briggs will refine the wording and submit to the group before the end of this week.
- The four primary focus areas are: Economic Development, Water-Wastewater issues, a Segment of the Prevailing Wage issue and Higher Education funding.
- Discussion was held regarding the need to continue the Regional Legislative Issues Forum at the Healthy Communities Summit as a part of the issue selection process. With the increased involvement of county coordinators and interested parties within the counties, in addition to the assistance of the
Leadership Northwest Missouri Class Project 2006 and LNWMO alumni, there was a consensus that the Issues Forum participants unfairly weighted the outcome of the final issue selection. Jack Briggs moved that we remove the Regional Legislative Issues Forum as a part of the process. Ann Schlueter seconded the motion. The motion was voted upon and passed.
- Gifts of shirts for legislators were approved, and the opportunity for others to order shirts will be e-mailed to everyone. Information regarding the shirts will also be placed on the GNW website.
- Discussion was held about printing of nametags for legislators for the legislative dinner on February 5th, Deb agreed to take care of this task.
Marketing/PR
Committee
- Committee is narrowing down their search for the Missouri pralines, which will be used for the reminder gift 2 weeks prior to event. Committee will be looking for people to deliver these items.
- Committee has decided upon a personalized walnut suit coat hanger that will be given as a gift the day of the event. They are trying to locate a Missouri supplier at the moment. Bids will be taken.
Event
Committee
- Event committee reported on the process they will utilize for the luncheon seating, which incorporates decks of cards and placing a card in everyone’s name badge.
- The committee reported that there is a revision to the music/band schedule. In order to make it more conducive to networking early in the evening, the band’s CD will play as background music from 5 until 7; the live band will play from 7 until 10. (The actual event is slated to end at 8, however many people enjoy staying around to listen to the music until later.)
- The Missouri Wine booth may not be able to take part this year as they have a conflict in schedules.
- The Event Committee agreed to meet with the Issues Committee following this meeting to discuss the luncheon speakers.
Registration
Process
- It has been decided that the Event Coordinator, Deb Powers, will be in charge of the registration process, which includes the door greeters. Deb will recruit the greeters and do a briefing with them prior to the beginning of the evening’s activities.
- There will be an additional person at the registration desk to assist with late registration fees. The fees for the evening event will be the same as the amount for the entire event, $40.
Other
Business
- Deb reviewed the current budget standing. Few expenses have been received to this date.
- Gordon Becton could not attend the meeting, but Deb read a message from him regarding Mercer County’s participation this year.
The meeting adjourned at 11:10, the next meeting is set for January 23rd at 10:00 at the St. Joseph Area Chamber of Commerce.
Respectfully submitted,
Cyndra Lorey
